Online Bachelor Degree Program

What are the benefits of an online bachelor degree program?

An online bachelor degree program is a great way to get education in a variety of areas without ever having to leave home. Many people are attracted to the flexibility, ease, cost-effectiveness and comfort of working from home while earning a post-secondary education degree. According to USAToday, even on-campus students are opting to participate in online classes, as well as the U.S. government, who, according to FCW Media Group, is one of the leaders in online course offerings to employees who want continuing education, exceeding the private sector.

A common misconception about an online bachelor degree program is that it is easier than a traditional one; however this is not necessarily true. Even so, be sure to select a school that has a commitment to excellence in education, online or not.

What kind of schools do I have to choose from?

There are two types of schools that offer online programs of study -- online-only schools and traditional schools. Both have advantages and disadvantages. With an online-only school, you can take your entire course load exclusively online; however, you are often limited as to what types of degrees you can earn this way. A traditional school will offer you the option of taking classes online, but beware of stipulations. Many times, schools, or even the states they reside in, may require at least a portion of in-class presence from online students.

There are a variety of support programs that monitor and evaluate distance learning programs, such as the United States Distance Learning Association. Before you choose one online bachelor degree program over another, check into your top choices and see how they rate against others.
