What is a Bachelor Degree

A bachelor degree is a certificate of learning that you earn from an academic institution upon the completion of approved coursework in a specific area of study. A standard bachelor degree takes 4 years to complete, however there may be exceptions, such as if you take summer courses or an expedited program. In order to earn a bachelor degree, you will need to take a variety of liberal arts courses such as history, art, various sciences, such as biology, psychology and English. You will also be allowed to selected several electives of your own choosing. This will be in addition to courses you take for your major.

CNN has found that people who earn a bachelor degree earn a significantly higher annual salary than those who only have a high school diploma.

Why is it important to earn a bachelor degree?

There are several reasons why it is important to earn a bachelor degree in today's society. One reason is that the job market, especially in certain areas, if highly competitive and if you want to have a chance at being considered for a position, you will need to be able to offer as much, if not more than your competition. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, many jobs require a bachelor degree from all applicants and will not consider those without one.

Another reason why it is important to earn a bachelor degree is for personal growth. Post-secondary education offers the opportunity for you to learn about the world well beyond what high school can teach and many times, even if they don't use their degree for working, people who earn a bachelor degree tend to be more well-versed in many areas of life.
